Colorado Access Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Honored with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission Humanitarian Award
DENVER — Colorado Access is proud to announce that Bobby King, vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I), has been named a 2025 recipient of the prestigious Menola Upshaw Lifetime Achievement Award, a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission Humanitarian Award. The Menola Upshaw Lifetime Achievement Award, named for the longtime executive director of the Denver Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is given to a person whose life has been a “testimony to their devotion to acts of ‘good trouble’ on behalf of the community using their time, talent and resources.” Bobby, who was nominated by former Denver Mayor Wellington E. Webb and former First Lady of Denver Wilma Webb, has long shown dedication to social justice, advocacy for the marginalized, giving back to the community, and advancing DE&I initiatives.
“We are very proud of Bobby and believe this is well-deserved recognition of his leadership and commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Annie Lee, president and CEO of Colorado Access. “Bobby’s vision and passion for a more just and equitable society have driven important initiatives across multiple organizations and systems.”
With more than 25 years of experience in high-tech, municipal government, and health care sectors, Bobby has championed transformative DE&I strategies and programs. At Colorado Access, he leads efforts to create equitable health care systems, foster inclusive workplaces, and build strong community partnerships. His notable achievements include earning the Denver Business Journal’s inaugural Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leadership Award and being featured in the 2023 edition of Marquis Who’s Who in America.
“It is an incredible honor to be recognized with the Menola Upshaw Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Bobby King. “The legacy of Dr. King inspires me to imagine a future where everyone has the opportunity to participate and be heard.”
For nearly 40 years, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission has been leading and encouraging commemorations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day throughout Colorado. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission Humanitarian Awards recognize individuals who embody the principles of peace, equality, and service exemplified by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and who “give freely of themselves and whose good works spring from the generous volunteer spirit.” Bobby King was honored with the Menola Upshaw Lifetime Achievement Award at the Colorado Symphony Orchestra’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tribute concert on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
