Statement on Passage of Congressional Budget Resolution
Aurora, CO – Annie Lee, president and CEO of Colorado Access, released the following statement after the passage of a budget resolution by the Republican-controlled Congress that directs $880 billion in cuts to the committee that oversees Medicaid funding:
“We are devastated to consider the health and economic impacts our communities would suffer from such reckless cuts to Medicaid. We urge Congress to stop these rushed cuts to health care and maintain the critical lifeline that is Medicaid.
More than one million Coloradans rely on Medicaid to access care, and these potential cuts go beyond statistics. They would deeply impact the lives of our seniors in nursing homes, individuals with disabilities within our communities, expectant mothers, and our children. Providers in our state rely on Medicaid to serve our communities and to keep their doors open. With the passage of the budget resolution, Medicaid is in jeopardy, as well as the health of people in our state, our providers, and our economy. All of Colorado will suffer if this critical program is destroyed by funding cuts. The health and economic survival of our communities are hanging in the balance.”
