Alexis Giese, MD, Member of Colorado Access Executive Team, Named to Subcommittee of Colorado Behavioral Health Task Force

DENVER – Colorado Access is pleased to announce that Alexis Giese, MD, senior vice president of health care systems and chief medical officer at the nonprofit health plan, has been selected as a member of the Long-Term Competency subcommittee of the Colorado Behavioral Health Task Force. The task force, formed by the Colorado Department of Human Services on April 8, 2019 by direction of Gov. Jared Polis, aims to improve the current behavioral health system in the state.

The subcommittee is tasked with creating a plan to improve behavioral health in the criminal justice system. The 25 members represent a variety of organizations from the state of Colorado, including health care, law, social work, and government. The subcommittee will develop a plan for individuals who have been found incompetent to proceed and solutions for greater community intervention to reduce demand on forensic solutions to mental health.

“Colorado Access has an important opportunity to contribute to the subcommittee’s work,” says Giese. “We understand Medicaid-funded behavioral health, and we are positioned to mobilize those services and integrate them with other systems so that persons with behavioral health conditions receive necessary treatment and stay out of the criminal justice system.”

Giese’s involvement on the subcommittee follows the Colorado Access mission to partner with communities and empower people through access to quality, affordable care. Her nearly 30 years of experience in innovative service delivery leadership and as a practicing psychiatrist, including 11 years at Colorado Access, will bring a unique perspective to the subcommittee.
