There are a lot of things to think about when it comes to being a new mom. As a member, you have access to many resources in your community that can help you during your pregnancy and even after. We can connect you to the help you need when you need it most.

FINDING A DOCTOR

We can help you find a doctor if you don’t already have one. Call us at 866-833-5717 to talk to a Colorado Access care coordinator. Call Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

PRENATAL, POSTPARTUM, AND WELL CHILD VISITS

Prenatal visits are a must, even if you feel fine. They are important for your doctor to check on you and your growing baby. The earlier you get prenatal care, the better your chances are for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

You can talk about things like medications or supplements you are taking at these visits. You can also talk about pregnancy symptoms. Or your wishes for family planning and contraceptives. You can also ask your doctor other questions you have.

Postpartum is the time after you have your baby. Sometimes it’s called “the fourth trimester.”

On July 1, 2022, the postpartum coverage period for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program) and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) will be extended. This will be from 60 days postpartum to 12 months postpartum.

If you have Health First Colorado or if your child has CHP+, benefits are now covered during pregnancy. Benefits are also covered for a year after you give birth.

You need to sign up your baby for their own coverage. When your baby is signed up, they will also get 12 months of continued coverage.

This change can help your health and your baby’s health. Some things that are covered during this time are:

  • Primary care. This means things like well visits.

  • Emergency care and urgent care.

  • Hospital services.

  • Dental care. This is for both children and pregnant people.

  • Prescriptions.

  • Immunizations/vaccines.

  • Prenatal, birth and postpartum care.

  • Mental/behavioral health care.

To learn more about your coverage, visit healthfirstcolorado.com. You can also talk to your doctor. If you don’t have a doctor, we can help you find one. Call us at 866-833-5717. Or you can find one online at coaccess.com. There is a link to our directory on the homepage of our website.

At your postpartum exam, your doctor will make sure your body is healing and that you do not have any serious pregnancy-related health issues. You should schedule this exam for six weeks after you give birth.

Well child visits are routine exams. They will help keep your baby happy and healthy. Well child visits will be with your child’s doctor. The recommended schedule is within two days after you give birth. Then one, two, four, six, nine, 12, 15, and 18 months after.

COVID-19

Doctors are following strict hygiene and cleaning guidelines. This is to make sure your visits are safe and that you’re comfortable in their offices.

We are also learning more each day about how pregnant and postpartum women should deal with COVID-19 and caring for their baby. Click here to learn more.

VACCINES

Many vaccines can help keep you and your baby safe before, during, and after pregnancy. Talk with your doctor about the vaccines you should be getting and when you should get them. This means things like the flu and Tdap vaccine.

We can help you find a doctor if you don’t already have one. Call us at 866-833-5717. Call us Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

TRANSPORTATION

As a member, you may be eligible for non-emergent medical transportation (NEMT). This can help you get a ride to your behavioral and physical health appointments if you don’t have one. This means things like a doctor’s office, the hospital, or another medical office. NEMT should not be used in an emergency.

NEMT is available for Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid Program) members only. NEMT is not available for Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) members.
