Early Voting and the Impact of Your Vote

As Election Day approaches on November 5, I reflect on my vote’s significance—not just for me but for the community I cherish. As a mother, a cisgender woman of color, and a Denver resident, my journey is profoundly shaped by my bilingual, first-generation Chicana heritage. These aspects of my identity are a testament to the opportunities created and fortified by the voices that came before me—voices that fought tirelessly for the rights and privileges we may sometimes take for granted today.

Voting early is more than a matter of convenience; it’s a powerful declaration of our commitment to shaping our community and country’s future. In Colorado, we are fortunate to have robust systems that support early voting, making it accessible and as stress-free as possible. By voting early, we give ourselves time to navigate unforeseen obstacles—caregiver duties, transportation woes, work commitments, or simply the unpredictable nature of life.

Let’s boss up, plan, and prepare when and how you’ll cast your vote. Here are a few steps to make sure you’re ready to cast your vote early:

  1. Get the scoop by informing yourself on the issues on the ballot. Resources are available in English and Spanish to cater to the bilingual community.
  2. Verify your registration status and ensure your voter registration is current, especially if you’ve recently moved or are a first-time voter.
  3. Know where to go. Locate your nearest early voting center and check its hours of operation. Colorado provides mail-in ballots, which can also be returned at these centers.

Voting is an opportunity for all of us to influence decisions that align with our values and ensure that our collective needs are addressed at the local, state, and national levels. In a world where life can sometimes feel uncertain, casting your vote is a moment of control and empowerment. It’s about standing up for what matters to you and ensuring the voices of those historically marginalized and silenced are heard.

I encourage each of you to join me in voting early. Let’s show up for ourselves, our families, and our communidad. Together, our votes are a powerful testament to our collective strength and commitment to a more just future for all.

Vamos a votar! Let’s vote!
